Project Paper Doll The Rules Stacey Kade Books
The Rules was so fun! Aliens! Secret government experiments! Fake relationships! Ariane Tucker is a human-alien hybrid created by a corporation known as GTX. She's been "adopted" by a guard who helped her escape after his own daughter died. In order to stay hidden, her father has laid out some rules that she must follow. They all amount to staying under the radar and not getting too close to any humans. Of course, this makes Ariane a loser at her high school, since she doesn't dress right or talk to anyone. But after defending her only friend from the mean girl, Ariane is now on someone's radar, and her safety has been compromised. The Rules reminded me a lot of Vampire Academy (just the first book, not the series). Both books have a great overarching plot, but they use high school drama to get it all started. Rachel is the stereotypical mean girl, and has targeted Ariane after she embarrasses her in front of others during a prank. Then she comes up with a revenge plan: have her friend Zane ask Ariane out, then publicly humiliate her. Well, Zane isn't like Rachel, so he tells Ariane about the plan so they can get back at Rachel. Genius! Yeah, it sounds cheesy, but I really liked it! And I love fake relationships turning real.
I really enjoyed The Rules! I don't want to give too much away, since there are quite a few twists, turns, and reveals. I adored Ariane and how she still made mistakes with common phrases, since she was raised in a lab without context. Her memories of the lab are disturbing, and I'm always fascinated at how people can twist something like that and try to make it sound like it's for the greater good, and make sense, even though you know it's still wrong! I really need to get my hands on the next books soon!

Project Paper Doll The Rules Stacey Kade Books Reviews
The book focuses a lot on the drama between Zane and Adriane rather than moving the plot along clearly. Zane and Adriane react with unbelievably angsty teenage angst, which based on their characters the rest of the time doesn't seem consistent. Adriane is constantly torn between her "alien side" and her "human side", but near as I can tell her "alien side" (which is her "logical" side) is pretty normal logical human.
All in all, if you want a quick easy read without thinking too much, this is fine. If the above concerns could be resolved, I'd improve my rating dramatically, because it has lots of unexpected twists and turns which give it potential.
I liked the world that Stacey Kade drew and the different take on telepathy felt realistic. The setting was nice and I like the male main character. What I like best is that he cares for her and wants to help her with no "insta-love" or ulterior motives beyond reuniting with his mother. I want to read the sequel because this one left a good feeling. One thing I liked was her misguided belief in cartoons. Once upon a time that was me. Although mine went just a little deeper I thought real life action movies had really happened. That meant that Star Trek and Star Wars were real to a small child.
I really liked this book!!! It was really meaningful. It really has some great ideas and themes! It was also very funny and romantic! It had many twists. However, some of the twists you could see coming. It held my attention and was interesting to read. I loved Zane and his story! I loved how he had a tough life and thought he had no choices. At the end, he stood up for himself and saved the day! I also loved Arian's story! It really touched me. She wanted to fit in and wanted to be loved sooo much! She thought she needed to pick sides of herself to be. At the end, she started to find herself. She kicked butt at the end. Yes some parts were slow and predictable, but I really enjoyed this book! I'm totally going to read the next one!!
It was a good book... wish there was less swearing but that is probably just my mormon mind thinking... absolutely worth the time it takes to read it though.
I’ve had this book for years and while it always looked interesting, the alien aspect I guess turned me off so I never read it. But once I finally did start it, I was hooked. Interesting characters, great plot and conflict, some surprises. Yes it followed other books in this general genre but it had unique twists and the writing was very good. I will definitely finish the series. Well done.
Project Paper Doll was a great book. has had it in my suggestions for a long time. I wish I'd given in to my curiosity sooner. Better late then never though, right?
High school is hard enough to navigate, but when you're living a life of secrets, as Ariane has been, life itself is like walking a field full of hidden mines. Everything is going as well as can be expected in her predicament until her sense of justice and and her protectiveness get her in a bind.
While I loved that Ariane stuck up against the strong who preyed against the weak, it was a little off. She allowed her.....best friend......to undergo humiliating circumstances without coming to her aid-sure, she needed to be careful-one minute, then the next moment she almost blows everything over the same circumstance. Oooookay. Though little things like that-which will make more sense when you read the book-were off, I LOVED that Ariane stood up for the under dogs. Being a person myself who hates the kind of stuff she stood up to, I really loved that she was willing to risk everything to even the playing field.
Zane was a sweetheart-at least the Zane we meet. Having lived a hard life of his own he was perfect for Ariane. I just hope in book 2 their connection grows, because they make an amazing duo.
I loved this book. All aspects of it. I hope to learn more about Ariane's background in the sequel.
Read this book, don't wait like I did. If you enjoy books of an otherworldly nature, you'll love Project Paper Doll. I did, except for some editing mishaps.
