The Penguin Who Knew Too Much A Meg Langslow Mystery Donna Andrews 9780312329426 Books

Meg is finally moving in but so are the penguins? Her dad is helping out the local bankrupt zookeeper and minding some of the animals so of course he digs them a pond in the basement of her house. Ooops he finds a body who turns out to be the zookeeper. Meg spends half the time snooping and half the time trying to get a handle on the animals arriving to her home. The false suspect who was behaving oddly had me totally surprised by his motives. The killer didn't surprise me. Somehow by this point the behavior of these folks seems totally normal because of course a picnic includes monkeys and hyenas.

The Penguin Who Knew Too Much A Meg Langslow Mystery Donna Andrews 9780312329426 Books Reviews

All of Donna Andrews' books are a hoot. Good mystery plot and her characters are marvelous. Love all her mysteries.
I read this book when it first came out and loved. I found it to be just as funny and fast paced as it was the first time.
The Caerphilly Zoo is having problems, compounded by the owner getting murdered with a crossbow bolt! Naturally Meg's Dad volunteers her place, as well as his to offer foster care for the zoo's animals.

The subplot of Michael and Meg trying to plan their elopement is a hoot! The fact that the mystery of Dr. Blake showing up puts him as a prime suspect. I love the twist at the end.

Enjoy this story and go on to the next one!
I love this series, as long as she sticks with humor and mystery and nixes romance. I always pass these on to others who enjoy them as much as I do.
I have enjoyed all the books in the series so far. Meg's funny family had me laughing out loud at times. The only fault I have with this one is continuity. In previous books, Rob barely passed his bar exam, and was a lawyer who did some law work for his uncles.. This book says he didn't bother to take his bar exam at all. He also went from a guy who spent hours on his computer to one who couldn't figure out how to turn one on. Not sure what's up with the dumbing down of Rob.
My problem is not Ms Andrew's novel, my problem is with the formatting of the novel for . What a mess. When a new speaker begins, they are in the same paragraph as the previous speaker. It is very difficult to understand who is speaking. Words are hyphenated where no hyphen should be. A new paragraph starts mid sentence from the last paragraph. I have experienced this on a minor scale in other novels placed on , but this is just silly. I can't imagine how it got past an editor's perusal. While it would be incorrect to say that it's literally on every page, it isn't far from being an accurate account.
I will continue to enjoy my reading, but, ladies and gentlemen of , pay attention please.
I started out reading the Meg Langslow series with a recommendation from my daughter. Two of Donna Andrews' books were given to my mother during her illness. After Mother passed, my daughter told me I would enjoy the books, so she collected several more for me. When I did read them, I ended up collecting all of her books. Donna Andrews has a way of making you laugh (a lot). For a series about solving murders, it is so light and funny. Since I am not an organized person, I thoroughly appreciated the reference to Meg's notebook "that tells her when to breathe." She gives new meaning to family participation. If you need a laugh you have got to read this book.
